It was based on the most powerful six-cylinder version, to which it was decided to add everything strongest available in Mercedes' warehouses. A 5-liter V8 engine and transmission from the SL model, short rear axle gearing, increased track width, large brakes. The task was carried out by Porsche engineers and was executed by hand throughout the production cycle (5 years and over 10,000 units assembled) in the Porsche Rossle-Bau factory in Zuffenhausen. The legend surrounding the Mercedes 500E W124 has made it the most sought-after version in the entire series over the years.
